Easter Trail coming soon
There are many other groups in Luton who have dedicated themselves to making life better through gardening. The Edible Luton network has a great overview to meet them all.
St Matthew's Primary School are raising the next generation of green-fingered gardeners!
We're helping with advice on their very own sheltered shade garden.
Each year, we usually plant and harvest potatoes together.
From spud beginner to potato pro. First we learnt where potatoes come from, where they grow and how long they need to get ready. Children and adults shared their favourite ways of eating potatoes, too. What is yours?
We placed 4 to 6 potatoes into each pot. That might be a little cramped, but it was more fun. The varieties were Ulster Prince and Caledonia Pearl. They are 'first early' potatoes, so should be ready in just 70 days from our planting day on 21 March.
The pupils and teachers are doing a fabulous job in looking after the young potato plants. They'll soon develop new tubers in the soil. Just a bit of 'earthing up' and there should be a harvest in early June.
We're working with Penrose Roots to Recovery Garden, we're sharing our experiences in orchard management and join their events around Green Social Prescribing.
While Richmond Hill School are getting their wonderful school garden back into shape, they'll be joining our gardening sessions from time to time. We're also helping them in their search for a school gardener.
You may know the NOAH Enterprise charity shop and training academy on High Town Road. They have also adopted 2 of our raised beds on the Edward Street garden, where they run gardening activities. We helped them refresh their window boxes in Summer 2023.
